This painting is warm and inviting – the sunlight on the table, the delicate flowers, the dark fruitbowl. The colours you have used and shapes both angular and rounded evoke a Japanese flavour to this painting, again something echoed in my experience of eating with you – seaweed on the porridge – Denis’s idea, of course, and your delicious homemade sushi.

The loveliness of your studio, crammed with paintings, a huge inspiration for me, and a wake up call to nurture my own creative spirit. This still life painting ‘Afternoon Sun’ evokes a time and a place, the overall sensation of which is energetic stillness.

So, Mary, this is the painting I would choose because it reminds me of visiting you, of developing friendships, of being in touch with nature and beauty, and igniting my own creative process.
