Pitches made for painting

Green Pool
I choose “Green on Pool”.
(I love a competition)
You must have looked, I must assume,
into that same Silent Pool
deep and teeming with secrets and lies.

It was a while ago.
When I was small.
I have not been there since.
Until just now.

It floods into my room
(the water is rising, lapping over my laptop)
when I look at your painting.

Or,(more worrying, but wonderful)
you must have hacked a path
into that overgrown corner
of my uncoppiced memory
and painted what you found.

I am stirring that green stuff, algae,
with a stick
to make the bare branches melt
and the winter sunlight
dance a silver Highland Fling.

I am giddy again with that feeling of
almost vertigo,
when gazing down into the water
suddenly, with no warning,
I am diving into sky.
