About me

Artist's Statement

Article text
Self portrait 2008
All of my life I have been an artist, using many different media…
I like to engage with the world on
various levels and I especially like the viscosity and gooeyness of pigment.

When I paint, I feel alive. Engaged. Challenged.

I take comfort in my ability to become engrossed in the world around me through the process of painting.

My commitment to my work requires me to be fearless, to have endurance, to be energetic and really present.

Being a disabled artist matters. It affects every aspect of my painting - the speed at which I work (very fast),
the format (big),
the choice of materials
(oils), where I go (always out) and how I get there
(usually on foot).

And, at the end of the day, when I am shampooing my brushes,
I value most highly my enthuiasm for getting out and doing it, in all weathers and in difficult circumstances.
I also highly value my palette knife.

It is short, sharp
and to the point.

Like myself.
