The Goose Field

I like to paint this halfway world, a place where fresh and sea water meet.  It is a place where swamp emerges in the eerie fog, and where the setting sun casts a long shaft of mellow light over the unsettled sea. It is a world rich in many hues, blues, vibrant greens, sharp lemony yellows, deep ochres, vivid purples, and burnished golds. As I paint in winter, I often hear the cackling of the over-wintering geese. This contrasts sharply with the elegant whoosh of the whooper swans as they fly low, emitting their joyful, deep, honking call just after dawn or in advance of dusk.
